Poker Event Returns to Binion’s
On may 10, 2006, Binion’s Gambling Hall and Hotel will once again host a
high stakes poker tournament. Located in downtown Las Vegas, Binion’s has
not had a major poker tournament on its premises in two years, when the
World Series of Poker was moved after Harrah’s bought the rights to the
tournament. Binion’s was involved in the 2005 World Series of Poker, but
only as a side event, a celebratory stop for the final two days of the
Championship Event.
Now, though, Binion’s is once again looking to be a player on the big
poker stage, with the American Poker Championships. The championships will
feature 29 different tournaments that will culminate with the $5,000 Main
Event that will end the tournament on May 24th. The championships are to be
hosted by former World Champion Tom McEvoy and Susie Isaacs, two time
bracelet winner in the World Series of Poker.
Recent tournament action has featured only Texas Hold’Em, but the American
Poker Championships will be different. Hold’Em will be featured among the 29
events, but they will also include tournaments of Seven Card Stud and Omaha,
both the regular and hi/lo versions. The events themselves are across the
spectrum, from Limit to Pot Limit to No Limit. All events are to be capped
at a maximum of 800 players, which is sure to make the tournament more
competitive than those whose fields include thousands of players, where
skilled players are often disadvantaged by the luck of the draw.
Satellites for the event are currently being held at Binion’s, and there
should be a good field for the event. There will be great opportunity for
skillful play at each event, and the Main event features a blind structure
that rivals many tournaments with levels that run for two hours. The
American Poker Championships are a partnership between Binion’s and Omni
Media.
