Shooting Stars Tournament Nears Completion
Today marked Day Three of the Bay 101 Shooting Stars Poker tournament, but
there were not many stars left to shoot! At the start of the day, only three
bounties were left; Dan Harrington, Sam Batshon, and David Williams. The
rest of the field totaled 35 players, who are all battling it out to win six
spots at the final table. The final table will be televised by the World
Poker Tour series. Although most tournaments players start the day at
nine-handed tables, the remaining players in the Shooting Stars tournament
began today’s play today at six-handed tables. It only took slightly less
than ten hours to narrow the players down to the six players for the final
table, with the other 29 getting eliminated.
Dan Harrington was the first remaining bounty to be collected. He was
knocked out by Jeff Kimber and placed 22nd in the tournament. Kimber not
only took Harrington’s chips, he also received the $5,000 Shooting Star
bounty for Harrington’s elimination. Second bounty Star to fall was Sam
Batshon, who fell to Nam Le. Of the 50 Stars who began the tournament, only
one, David Williams, remained.
David Williams came into play today far down in 24th chip position, with a
paltry $81,000 stacked in front of him. Williams seemed determined to play
aggressively today though, and built his chip stack up quickly throughout
the day. By the halfway point of play today, he had actually taken the chip
lead. Williams was playing classic big stack poker, but when the field
narrowed to seven players, Williams began to take some hits. At the
completion of the day, it was Nam Le who was the chip leader, with
$1,309,000. Williams ended up fifth with $668,000. The other players at
tomorrow’s final table are (in order of chip count finish) Ravi Udayakumar
($1,024,000), Danny Smith ($805,000), Fabrice Soulier ($703,000), and Chad
Brown ($652,000). The payers will go head to head tomorrow looking to take
the first prize of $1,172,800, plus an entry into the World Poker Tour
Championship at the Bellagio, worth $25,000. The final, televised table of
the Bay 101 Shooting Stars tournament is set to begin at 5pm PST.
