Two Important Rules When playing poker, you need to be familiar with the two most important rules of the game. These rules are covered in every poker rule book and are as follows: Rule #1) Always protect your hand. This includes not getting it fouled because stray discards touched it, in a draw game asking for the correct number of cards in turn, not allowing two people to pass behind you if you intend to bet--which in many clubs either disqualifies you from betting, or in a call situation, kills your hand--without either acting or calling "time," not discarding your hand before the pot is actually in your possession, knowing who else is in the pot, not dropping your cards on the floor (which has various interpretations, few of which help the beginner, and, most important, knowing the rules. In Texas Hold'em, many players protect their cards by one of two ways: either by holding tightly onto them during the entire play of the hand, or by using a protector, which can be a special disk, or a few poker chips, directly on top of the cards. Rules #2)The Floorman's decision is always the final. By knowing these simple rules, you won't lose any pots on a technicality that should belong to you. Also, it's also important that you take the time to read the rule book of any new poker club the first time you play, or ask a manager to explain the rules. You'll avoid having any negative experiences this way and will be able to focus your energy on winning. |
